How many staff members do you have in your daycare?
According to Finland’s Early Childhood Education Act, there must be at least one educator for every seven children over the age of three, and one educator for every four children under the age of three.
At Peikkometsä, we always meet or exceed these requirements. If a staff member is absent, we bring in a substitute right away to ensure daily life continues smoothly, even in exceptional situations.
Who oversees private early childhood education?
All private daycare centres in Finland are monitored by the early childhood education services of their local municipality. An operating license is granted by the Regional State Administrative Agency before the daycare can begin. In addition, approvals are required from health authorities, the fire department, and building supervision. Even the smallest details are thoroughly reviewed before a daycare can open its doors.
Where does your food come from?
We serve nutritious and balanced homemade meals. In our Lahti daycares, meals are prepared in our own kitchen located in Peikkometsä Villähde. In our other locations, we carefully select trusted food service providers who meet Peikkometsä’s high standards. Our menus are thoughtfully planned and adjusted when needed. We always consider special diets and offer delicious vegetarian options as well.

How is physical activity included in your daily routines?
According to official guidelines, children under 8 should be physically active for at least three hours each day. At Peikkometsä, we aim to fulfill most of this recommendation during the daycare day itself.
Our movement programming is based on an annual plan, which each group uses to design a blend of guided and child-led physical activity. Weekly themes, energy bursts, nature walks, and fun movement integrated into everyday transitions are part of our daily rhythm at every Peikkometsä daycare.
