Peikkometsä continued its journey across Finland in 2023 with the opening of a new private daycare in Rajamäki, Nurmijärvi. The daycare welcomes four groups of children: Kääpiönkolo and Keijunkehto – for children under 3, Mörrinmaja – for ages 2–4 and Peikonpesä – for ages 3–5.
The Rajamäki daycare is thoughtfully divided into two wings. On one side, our youngest adventurers begin exploring the world under the gentle care of familiar educators. On the other side, older children challenge themselves through active play, both in structured environments and during free exploration in the forest.
As with all Peikkometsä locations, the indoor and outdoor environments reflect our signature playful and movement-friendly design. Each group has access to spacious activity halls with climbing bars and play gym equipment. Outside, a tall tower and climbing structures invite brave explorers, while our cozy play shelter provides a perfect spot for snack breaks in the fresh air.

The surrounding area is ideal for adventures—nearby forests, the library, and sports fields are used regularly by all groups. Weekly outings are a key part of our routine.
Inside and outside, the facilities are rich with opportunities for movement. Each group’s activity hall includes ropes, rings, and climbing bars. The older children’s side features sliding walls that open into a large shared hall—perfect for physical activities and whole daycare events.
Outdoors, children can develop their motor skills with age-appropriate swings, a ball field for games and active group play, and a paved traffic area where they can practice safety rules with toy mopeds and trucks.

The response scale ranges from -100 to +100. A score above 50 indicates an excellent result.
The daycare opens at 6:30 a.m. Children who arrive early begin the day with calm play and cozy moments. As more children arrive, we gradually move into our own groups and enjoy breakfast between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m.
After a nutritious breakfast, the day continues at an energetic pace. Some children head outdoors while others stay inside to play and explore. Our mornings are filled with a wide variety of engaging activities: some children practise their skills on a balance course, others do crafts, and some make music together. Outdoors educators organize yard games for children from all groups.
On forest adventure days, the group begins preparing for the outing after breakfast, heading out to enjoy the calm of the forest. Forest days are part of everyday life for all groups, and at times the older children spend the entire day outdoors—having lunch outside and resting in hammocks strung between the trees.
Lunch is enjoyed at the daycare between approximately 11:00 and 12:00, depending on the group. After lunch, it is time to rest together for a while—relaxation and quiet moments are important parts of an active day. Some children sleep until snack time, while others listen to a story and then return to shared play.
An afternoon snack is served around 2:00 p.m. After snack time, the groups head outdoors according to their own schedules. The daycare closes at 5:00 p.m.
At our daycare, we don’t let the weather stand in the way of outdoor play. Please make sure your child has warm, weatherproof clothing and plenty of spare clothes. This helps ensure your child stays comfortable, warm, and dry throughout the day.
