A warm welcome to Kaunismetsä!

Peikkometsä is currently building a brand-new daycare in the Kaunismetsä neighborhood. This beautiful early childhood center is being built in an ideal location right at the edge of the forest, next to residential homes and close to local services. It will be easy to reach and filled with opportunities for adventure.

What Makes Peikkometsä Kaunismetsä So Special?

Our daycare, opening in August 2025, has been thoughtfully designed from the ground up. Each of the eight child groups will have their own spacious and home-like space, where they are cared for by familiar educators. While the building is large, it is divided in a way that allows each group to feel safe, at ease, and at home.

Children will have access to a variety of shared spaces, as well as a large, dedicated gym hall for active play. Fixed movement structures—such as climbing bars and walls—can be found both in the play gym and within group areas, encouraging self-initiated movement and exploration throughout the day. We believe that the learning environment itself should spark curiosity and motivate children to move and engage actively.

Like all Peikkometsä locations, the outdoor yard is truly one of a kind—and Kaunismetsä is no exception. On the forest-facing side of the property, we’re building a grand Taikatunturi climbing mountain, complete with activity trails, a play field, and a sledding hill for winter fun. On the street-facing side, younger children can enjoy their own track for riding scooters and toy vehicles, swings, sandboxes, and an age-appropriate climbing structure. There will be something delightful for every child on this truly inspiring playground.

The Spirit of Peikkis, Backed by Years of Experience

Our Kaunismetsä location will be led by Elina Eerola, a seasoned and respected educator who has been part of the Peikkometsä family for many years. Elina is transferring from our Nastola daycare to lead this new adventure.

Elina is known for her warmth, enthusiasm, and approachable nature. She brings both heart and expertise to her role, ensuring that Kaunismetsä will be a place where children, families, and staff all feel truly cared for.

Thanks to her extensive background in early childhood education, Elina knows exactly what goes into building a high-quality, nurturing learning environment. She brings with her a deep understanding of Peikkometsä’s commitment to warm, responsive interaction with children and families, and she’s passionate about making sure every child experiences the joy of movement each and every day. All of this experience and dedication will be at your family’s service in Kaunismetsä.

We warmly welcome all families in Järvenpää to join us—Peikkometsä is already looking forward to the autumn ahead!

A Day at Peikkometsä – What It Looks Like

Daycare Opens

The daycare opens at 6:30 AM. Early arrivals begin their day with gentle play and one-on-one moments with educators. As more children arrive, we gradually transition into group settings and serve breakfast between 8:00 and 8:30.

Morning Activities

After a nutritious breakfast, the day picks up with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Some children head out, while others engage in creative projects inside. Activities vary from balance exercises to crafts, music, and guided outdoor play led by the week’s “movement educator.”

Forest Days

Groups that have a forest outing planned will pack up after breakfast and head out for a day of fresh air and discovery. All groups enjoy forest days regularly, and older children sometimes stay out the entire day—eating lunch outdoors and napping in hammocks strung between trees.

Lunch and Rest

Lunch is served between 11:00 and 12:00, depending on the group. Afterwards, it’s time to rest and recharge—some children sleep until snack time, others relax with a story and transition to quiet play.

Snack and Outdoor Play

Afternoons begin with a light snack at 2:00 PM, followed by more time outside. Each group wraps up the day at their own pace. The daycare closes at 5:00 PM.

Helpful Tip for Families

At Peikkometsä, weather is never a reason to stay indoors! Please make sure your child has plenty of warm, waterproof clothing—and always pack extra clothes for changes during the day. This ensures comfort and joy during every outdoor adventure.
